Details and Challenges:

1 Source Office Furniture recently completed a new building for a logistics freight company in Easton, Maryland. The building includes two large open offices for 196 employees with a focus on teamwork. 1 Source’s partners on the project include Fisher Architecture, Gillis Gilkerson Construction, and the logistics company’s CEO to transform this building renovation into a vibrant workplace for the company’s growing team of sales and customer service specialists.

The project had to be completed in September and October 2021 when supply chain problems were causing delays for businesses worldwide. When the building’s renovation went faster than anticipated, 1 Source and its partner McClain Group worked closely with all the office furniture manufacturers to make sure everything would be delivered on time for the transport company’s grand opening.

A modern, low walled workstation called Expand system manufactured by Open Plan Systems was again selected for this office furnishings project by Marc Rosen, president of 1 Source Office Furniture.

“Our low-profile Expand workstation cubicle allows for maximum efficiency and an overall look that is bright and airy,” explains Rosen.

The team enjoys the modern look and efficiency that benching-style workstations by Open Plan Systems offers at a reasonable price when compared to high-end systems available on the market. 1 Source has designed, specified, and installed the Expand cubicles in all of the company’s locations, including two locations on Maryland’s Eastern shore, another in Baltimore, and satellite offices in Florida, Texas, Georgia, and Colorado. The Expand system provides the utmost flexibility of footprint and customizable features for a modern workplace. What’s more, the system offers complete wire management via a trough that holds power and cabling neatly below the work surface.

“With our workstations, the options allow us to include everything employees need, such as desktop power, ample file storage, and lockable drawers in a single workstation,” says Rosen. He adds, “This workstation supports an atmosphere of collaboration for this growing transport company and that’s why we have selected this product for their new building.”

For this furnishings project, Rosen knew that the office seating at those workstations had to also be carefully selected for quality and durability. So, how do you choose one office chair for 196 workers? The answer was Allseating’s L1 Midback for its overall quality of design and for the chair’s “intuitive ergonomics” which Allseating has perfected over the past 40 years. The workstations, conference rooms, and small meeting rooms all have The Allseating task chair for a unified look throughout the building.

In the two boardrooms, grand conference tables that are 17-feet in length made by LogiFlex carry through the red / gray color scheme with weathered deep grey tones with bright red ergonomic chairs. For 1 Source, LogiFlex is a leader in customizable laminate desks, conference tables, and reception counters that allow for contrasting color bases and work surfaces for a custom look. Each large conference room has twelve fully adjustable ergonomic chairs in bright red that emphasizes the company’s colors. Five executive offices were furnished with Pivot series desks by Compel, along with guest chairs and ergonomic task chairs from Allseating.

At the back of the building, a large multi-purpose room has a golf green and games area, a café with long expanses of countertops and bar stools, and a comfortable lounge seating area. 1 Source supplied bright red café chairs from Erg International with compact bucket seats. With the bucket seat stools, the area is easily cleaned between each use.

“The growing trend for furnishing office buildings is to have flexible rooms that can accommodate training, gatherings, or whatever else may be needed throughout the year. We help achieve that with smart furniture selections,” says Laurie Rosen, 1 Source’s VP.

The end result for this new office furniture project by 1 Source is that the company’s employees, owners and members of the community can enjoy the space for years to come.
